All risks and uncertainty of the processes involved in cosmetic tattooing is agreed upon and understood by the client before booking an appointment.

Lip Care

  • Pre-Care

*No botox or fillers at least 4 weeks before/after your appointment

*If you have had a history of cold sores and/or fever blisters EVER, you must take anti-viral medication (such as Valtrex) the day before, the day of, and continue to take for the rest of the week. obtain prescription from your doctor.

*If you want to play it safe, according to the WHO, approximately 2/3 of adults have HSV-1, the virus that causes cold sores, and may not even be aware of it. Lip blushing can activate this virus and cause outbreak. Lysine, an amino acid supplement available over the counter, has been shown to help prevent outbreak and may be taken in the days leading up to your appointment.

*It is important to have hydrated lips at your lip blush appointment. In the week leading up to your appointment lightly exfoliate and keep lips hydrated with balm/aquaphor. Stay hydrated as well by drinking water. Dry, cracked lips are difficult to work with and will often result in a poor heal.

  • After Care

    *Immediately After:

With clean, dry hands, wipe lips once every 1/2 hour with the sterile wipes included in your aftercare kit or blot with damp cotton pad to remove any fluids that may leak from your fresh tattoo. Follow with the healing ointment

Lips may appear swollen and feel tender - this is temporary and can last up to 48 hours. swelling generally goes down within a few hours. Ice lips on and off if needed to reduce swelling.

*Days 2-10: Apply the lip butter included in your aftercare kit. Keep them hydrated but not too wet. Alternatively you may apply A&D ointment or Aquaphor when you run out of the balm i give you.. Always use a fresh applicator brush or clean hands when touching your lips.

    Avoid sweating for 3-5 days

Avoid for 3 days: spicy food, alcoholic beverages, hot and colored liquids, and whitening toothpaste, kissing,Do no pick, scratch, or bite any scabs, ever.

Avoid excessive amounts of water, saunas, steam rooms, swimming pools, long showers.

Do not apply makeup or skin care products directly on or around the area.

No kissing while lips are healing

If you received a neutralization session, please refer to the Melanin-rich lips section for additional information, as the healing process can differ beyond the 5 day mark.

*Afterwards: Lip blush is a two session service. Each persons body heals differently. Your fresh tattoo may appear dark at first then get light after a few days. As your skin continues the healing process, the color will bloom and become more visible. The true color of your new tattoo will be best viewed at the 6-8 and will be ready for your perfecting session.

*Long term: Your tattoo is an investment and will require continued care. Anti-aging products, exfoliation treatments and sun/UV exposure will lighten your tattoo. It is important to wear sun screen and to tell your skin care professional to stay clear of the tattooed area. Additionally, clients with oily skin, iron deficient or have other skin issues, may see fading more quickly. Refresh appointments are necessary to maintain color and detail. annual refresh appointments recommended every 1-3 years. Lip blush lasts 3-5 years and 5+ years with annual refreshers.

  • Melanin-rich Lips

Melanin rich lip tattooing differs from lip blush procedures in that they involve neutralization sessions to blend and even out any darkly pigmented areas - specifically if the target color is pink.

Lips with higher melanin levels will often appear as multi colored/toned, such as a brown upper lip and pink bottom lip, and/or hyper-pigmented. Due to the vascular nature of lip tissue, hyper-pigmented lips usually appear to have cool blue and purple undertones to the naked eye. In order to even out and neutralize these tones, we must use complimentary colors only. The complimentary color to blue is orange and/or yellow, these colors will cancel out the cool blue tones and leave a nice nude-y warm pink. In some cases, more than one neutralization session may be needed. Only after all of the lip is neutralized can we tattoo a target color.

    HEALING

The initial healing experience is the same for everyone and lasts roughly 5 days; melanin-rich lips clients can sometimes experience a bit more swelling immediately after.

Details of this are outlined in the aftercare portion.

Other aspects of healing that neutralization clients may experience is active hypo/hyper-pigmentation, which are both trauma responses by melanocytes (cells that produce melanin). These cells can either be under or over stimulated resulting in a loss of melanin, causing very light pink/white patches or an overproduction of melanin, giving the appearance of very dark patches at any point in the healing process. While this doesn't always happen in melanin-rich lips, it can be frightening if it does and the client is unaware of the process. In both cases, this is temporary and completely normal and resolves around 6-12 weeks on average when the true color of the tattoo can then be seen.

Please see Lip Blush after care for more information.

Brows

  • Pre-Care

*No botox at least 4 weeks prior to your appointment

*No waxing at least 1 week prior to your appointment

*No tinting at least 3 days prior to your appointment

*It is not necessary to come to your appointment with your eyebrows styled, but if your goal is to achieve something similar to how you generally do them, having them freshly shaped/filled in may help. Please bring reference photos of either my work or inspo photos to give a clear idea of your brow goals.

  • Aftercare

*Immediately After: Blot your brows every 5-10 minutes for an hour with gauze I have provided you in your aftercare kit. Then do nothing. Don’t touch and use a clean pillowcase!

*NO SWEATING for at least 3-5 days after.

*Day 2-3 use the anti bacterial wipe I provided in the morning and apply a thin layer of the tattoo balm with applicator or clean fingers

*Day 1-10 Keep your brow area dry and untouched.

*Do not apply any brow make up and be mindful of skin care product application in the surrounding area. (anti aging products are a definite no!) *Brows may become itchy and flaky (usually day 3/4), although it may be tempting, do not pick! Prematurely removing scabs may pull pigment away - Allow your skin to heal on its own terms.

*use tattoo balm as needed once or twice a day on clean dry brows (always pat dry with paper towel day 1-5)

*when LIGHTLY washing a mild antibacterial liquid soap

*What to expect: Color will appear dark and may seem red - this is normal and temporary. Shape can appear uneven as the scabbing may pull and/or distort the skin in the surrounding area.

*Melanin rich clients may experience temporary hypo-pigmentation after peeling. Although uncommon, it is a normal response to trauma. As your skin continues to heal, the color will “bloom” and become more visible.

*Afterwards: Each persons body heals differently. Your fresh tattoo may appear light at first. As your skin continues the healing process, the color will bloom and become more visible. The true color of your new tattoo will be best viewed around the 6 week mark. It is important to remember that this is a two step process. Any areas that need to be adjusted will be addressed at the perfecting session, patience is key! (In some cases, additional sessions are necessary to achieve the desired results.)

*Long term: Your tattoo is an investment and will require continued care. Anti-aging products, exfoliation treatments and sun/UV exposure will lighten your tattoo. It is important to wear sun screen and to tell your skin care professional to stay clear of the tattooed area. *Do not apply any eye makeup, cleansers, lotions/creams or any ointments for the duration of this period.

*You may see some scabbing and flaking, do not pick or scratch. Picking can attribute to loss of color and definition.

*Afterwards: Each person body heals differently. Your fresh tattoo may appear light at first. As your skin continues the healing process, the color will bloom and become more visible. The true color of your new tattoo will be best viewed around the 6 week mark. This is a two step process. Any areas that are light or patchy, will be addressed at the perfecting session.

*In some cases, additional sessions are necessary to achieve the desired results.
